i was gonna...

... sleep for as long as I could today because I woke up at 6 am yesterday to finish my projects. And I did finish them! So I was planning on having a celebratory lie in today. It's 7.45. How well do you think I did?

Fudge.

aaaaaa!

Today I'm angry. Don't know why. Oh well I do. It's this damn construction thing. H to the A to the TE it.

So I thought I'd dress like a bitch and maybe that would make me calmer. Like if I look like one I don't have to act like one. 11.30 and I must say it's working. Or is it?

"i wanna build buildings high for you"

Oh jezz. I do hate construction. Thought I had it almost done but found out I have another 15 drawings to make. I'm trying not to panic here.. It's gonna be a long weekend peeps.

Today I'm thankful that L's operation went well. Been worried like hell about that. Is that the reason I haven't been sleeping well?

Today I'm getting ear plugs because I sure can't keep waking up everytime a bird flies past my window. It's exhausting...

See ya laterz aligaterz.

"like a bridge over troubled waters"

In life as in construction. Ramps are the spawn of the devil. Right now my only wish is that I will soon figure out how to build a bridge. Just like that. I'm sitting here waiting for that lightbulb moment.

*fingers drumming the table top*

Nope. No lightbulb. Better email dad, hopefully he knows.

monday morning in the library.

I'm in the library. Studying away. And listening to the group of boys sitting next to me trying to solve some sort of boring engineering mystery. One of the guys is not doing anything. He's just offending everyone in the group. Interesting to see how the other three's hate towards him grow by every minute that passes. A moment ago he said "Jake, it's so funny how we are friends. If this had been 200 years ago you would have been my slave. It's really great how whites and blacks can hang out these days..."

Haha. I would have stabbed him in his eye by now.

Progress!
Peeps, I'm making progress on my project! Almost one A1 poster done.

booored.

How qute aren't these salt and pepper shakers? I'll show you my bird collection some day..

I'm in the library and I'm seriously bored. Just finished writing a design brief and now I'm struggling with what to do next. Write a 1000 word essay on concrete. Or a refelctive journal on my thoughts on the industrial design revolution. It's like choosing between warm apples or eating a whole tomato without anything with it. Both makes me quiver.

Oh I so want all of these. On my window sill. In Sweden. With the late summer night sun beaming on them.

So instead I'll show you some pics from my vintage day on Saturday. The dress I found is gorgeous, even though Super Ivan says it's too short (It's definitely not too short.. I think he wants me to dress like a nun. All day. Every day. God forbid someone would ever find me sexy...) but I'm not showing it to you yet, na ah I'm not! I have to leave something a surprise. Right?

Bought the prettiest vintage jacket ever. Home sewn and everything! It goes very well together with the dress...

"all you can be is thirsty in a town with no cheer"

More often than I want to admit I struggle with my choice of becoming a landscape architect. It makes me panic thinking about that I made a choice when I was 21 that I still will affect me when I am 65. PANIC. But I don't think it has that much to do with the actual subject. It's just my restless soul fighting against doing the same thing day after day after day.

So in my panicked state of mind I need things that are fun to do. And right now I am really enjoying making maps. Abstract beautiful maps. All of these are for a project I am doing on Timbuktu. Great fun I tell thee.

"there's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be"

Wow it's hot here in Brissy today. Sunny, and hot, hot, hot.

When I haven't been sitting outside in the sun I have been playing with paper. Zaha Hadid style. (Well, mine looks like shit in comparison but you get the idea.) And one thing that strikes me is that I really miss living with Emma and Rhona. In our flat it was okay to spend a whole day lying on the floor cutting into paper. Here, in the house of 46 Heidelberg Street, everyone. Listen to me: e v e r y o n e is an engineer. Do you think they make fun of my cutting and colouring and drawing. Mhm sista, yes they do.

But I made a concept model of a shelter for the heat that has photovoltaics on top and Islamic patterns cut into it so it makes nice shadows on the ground. Super Ivan laughs. I say I'm awesome. (Oh, and yes. Calm down, it's not the final product. I will not have pictures of Canadian towels and pink bikinis when I actually present it.)

Tonight we're going to the cinema. And all I can say is baby steps dear readers. Baby steps...

"i'm tense and nervous and i can't relax"

OMG.
I'm quite anal when it comes to layouts so when a guy in my group said he wanted to make the powerpoint for tomorrow I thought "okay Charlie you're new here, make friends. Don't take control of everything. How bad can it be? He's probably awesome."

Oh. Shit. Just got this emailed to me. He thought the rays represented well the theme of our presentation.. Oh. Shit.
I sure hope that he just inserts my pdf:s into the powerpoint and doesn't decide to rewrite my slides...

"why does it always rain on me?"

I won a chocolate today during my lecture. How fun is that?! Amazingly fun I tell ya. I was the first out of 200 that guessed that a mucho blurry picture was Paris. Haha! You untravelled youth of Australia. Cry in the shadow of my glory. I gave the chocolate away, took another sugar free gum and made vegeterian chilli for dinner. Yes. Oh yes I'm a good girl now. Couldn't go out running tonight though. Too dark and too rainy when I got home. But I'm not gonna tell you that it has been raining for two weeks and that they said on the news that this is the wettest summer for 30 years. Nope. The sun is always shining in the Sunshine State. Always.

"if i could offer you only one tip for the future. sunscreen. would. be. it"

So I burnt myself today. Yup. And quite badly at that. But that's what I do every summer. Burn myself so bad I can't sit, or stand or lie down. But then after two days I have the best sunburn ever. And yes. I did wear sunscreen, it didn't matter. It never does for me.

And tomorrow my classes start. I get to have one class with the architects this semester. I sure hope they live up to my expectations. They have to wear black on black, have dark rimmed glasses, neat hairstyles, be super skinny, and most important, they always, always have a folder under their arms. That's what I envision. If they don't look like that I'll change to something else.

Oh, and it's now official. I have the worst memory in the history of time. I can't remember anyone's name. I know Veronica the Swedish girl. And Nick the chatty Dutch guy. But that's it. That's two out of 11 people I live with. I'm so rude, or unfocused. Let's go with unfocused, it's not as sad.

"i can't get to sleep, i think about the implications"

So I've been here now for two days. And I'm loving it.
Arrived on Thursday night and 12 hours later with 3 hours of sleep and no food I had enrolled at uni, sorted everything out with cards and passwords and classes and maps and information and free rain coats.. AND I also managed to find a room in the cutest house ever. Garden, bbq, flat screen tvs, sofas outside, private entrance to my room and everything refurbished a week ago. I'm awesome. Brisbane is awesome.

The only thing that's not so good right now is my sleep. I'm more jetlagged than I want to admit. I want to pretend that I am so amazing so I can adjust to the 9 hour time difference like it was like making a bit of toast. But I'm totally wrecked. Fell asleep 6 pm last night and woke up at 4.30 this morning. But lets not talk about that. Let's pretend I spent my first Friday night in Brisbane partying like there was no tomorrow.. Yeah, please, lets pretend.

Funniest thing this far: Met a Swedish girl called Fanny. Never thought about how hillarious that name is in English, poor Fanny. Stupid parents.

Well I only have four days left here at my hotel before I move in to my new room. So if you need me for anything you can find me at the pool.
